I want to move to Honolulu/Waikiki. Any reason to not do this? Who lives there?

anonymous asked:

What do you recommend? If you are a newcomer, how do you get around without a car? Can you bus it reasonably well and are things within walking distance? What’s your lifestyle like – working so much you can’t enjoy the beach?

I never actually lived there but was there alot when i was in the Navy. Public trans is very good. Housing is very expensive. Other costs of living not too bad if you find a local to show you the ropes. North shore is too cool. Have fun.

I lived in Honolulu less than a week ago. I moved back to the mainland, it was so bad. the entire city of Honolulu is all concrete, run down boxes, except the tourist area. the locals think that people besides Hawaiians should not be living there(mostly). the houses are OVERPRICED! i lived in a bug infested studio apartment for 1100 a month. there aren’t any a/c. the rest of the island(except for Mililani, that place is OK) is run down. if you are set on moving to Hawaii, move to Maui, or Kauai. not Oahu.

Depends on where you live if you plan on walking places. But buses pretty much go everywhere…..it is an island and so there aren’t to many places to go. It depends on if you are well off, and you’re planning on living in a very nice area. Hawaii has the nicest people, and great customer service, majority of the island is nice….but like all places there are a few spots that aren’t really up to par, but all in all Hawaii is a great place to live no matter what island you plan on moving too.

I have never lived there, but have visited there five times, and love it there!!!
A lot of the people take the Bus as their mode of transportation. I know of at least three people who live there, and would not live back on the mainland ever again!!
I would move there if I were you, and I would come and pay you a visit!!!

Bring $10k (including plane fare back) and plan on working a lot unless you have special skills. Lots or minimum wage jobs available.

Buses are good and you can find cheap cement block apartments … not all that romantic … but it’s a start.

I did it in the ’80′s just for the adventure – lasted 8 months. Go for it !!!

If you live in Honolulu there is absolutely no need for a car…you can bus it! Maybe even walk. The beach is never too far away. Go for it!
