You will absolutely need SPF30+ sunscreen, Deet based mosquito repellent, decent shorts, comfortable broken-in shoes, sunglasses, hats, tropic weather based clothing (drip-dry, loose fitting, etc.), bus route map, advice from the Hawaii Visitors Bureau (on-line), light jacket, cell phone, any/all Rx you have, cheap guide book should get you by. Anything or most of the above should be purchased on site at Wal-Mart, Longs, etc. Don’t shop on the strips for trivials. There are a lot of insects that sting or bite in Hawaii; be prepared. The Locals are the friendliest people in the world but will not tolerate rudeness or ignorance (Honolulu is a super progressive environment, don’t let the slow attitude deceive you); wear your happy face at all times….and never, ever turn your back to the ocean! Have fun! If you do it right your travel agenda is perfect. Camera’s and binoculars are optional.

For the plane ride make sure you buy snax and bottles of water AFTER you go through security to take on the plane…my son (14) took his ipod and portable DVD player and a book…my girls (13 and 17) took magazines and they all 3 shared my sons ipod. They Each took their own backpack with their own stuff. When packing pack lightly…2-3 pair of Shorts,2-3 light shirts/tank tops, bathing Suit,Sweat-shirt(evenings may be cool) 1 pair jeans and tennis shoes,socks,water-proof flip flops or sandals,it is good to have some water shoes too, there can be sharp creatures in the ocean that hurt when you step on them (I stepped on a sea-urchin while surfing in Waikiki and went to the ER).Other than these things, pack your individual personal toiletries and you should be set. PACK YOUR SUNSCREEN…AT LEAST A 25-30 SPF for the first few days there, you can gradually reduce the SPF if you want..but be careful that Tropical Sun can sneak up on you and you do NOT want to be sunburned ever…but especially during your wonderful Hawai’ian Vacation.~~ ~~Aloha~~

Lots of sunscreen. The UV rating has been around 12… which is considered extreme. You will burn if you’re unprotected.
Other than that, just bring 3+ swimsuits, shorts, tank tops, maybe a sweatshirt (even though this time of year it doesn’t get too cool, it still feels it when you go from 90 down to 70 within an hours time or so), SUNGLASSES, lots of money (be sure to bring cash for those road side stops and the swap meet), and flip flops. Have fun!

For the long flight you’ll need like something to do, like a book, magazine, your ipod, soduko, or whatever you like..
Now for the trip itself, the greatest advice i can give you is not to overpack.. ’cause seriously, you’ll probably wear half of what you take with you (i finally learned).. No one knows you over there, so there’s no need to worry about wearing a different beach short or flip flops every day..
As for the list:
It helps me to remember my daily routine starting from what i do first when i get up..
Brush my teeth (need toothbrush and toothpaste)
Put my contacts on (need solution, lenses and case)
Brush my hair (need comb, or hair brush)
and so on and so forth.. you’re routine might be different..
So sit down and remember what you do and start making a list of the things you don’t want to go without..
Remember you are going to beach, so get a beach towel, sunblock, flip flops, repelent (yes, in some islands there are mosquitoes)..
Try to make out your oufits before you pack them.. go like: “tomorrow i’m wearing this short with this shirt”, “the day after i’ll wear this and that”, etc.. so you don’t overpack and then don’t know what goes with what..
Good Luck and have lots of fun..
List of obvious things:
*sunscreen, toothbrush, toothpaste
*beach towel, flip flops, other pair of shoes
*socks, underwear, razors (if you shave.. and make sure they’re in your suitcase, not hang bag),
*camera (disposable or digital, whichever one you have)
*body lotion (if you use it), beach shorts
