The image says that it is a piece of coral, however, looking up pictures of coral skeletons did not result in finding any that looked like that.

That’s not a shell, it’s a coral fragment that broke off a larger piece The living organism that gives it color is no longer there, so it is bleached white. The dark spots are the spots where the polyps were.
